Web Standards - XHTML & CSS
We build all our sites using XHTML, CSS and a sprinkling of Javascript, and that's why they work.
You may be thinking, "Why should I have to worry about what my web designer uses to create my site?". The truth is, you shouldn't have to think about it, but in the real world, with your real dollars at stake, you need to make sure your designer is creating your site to be standards compliant. Not only will it ensure that your website is usable and accessible across all modern web browsers (and future browsers), it could also save you valuable $dollars down the road.
There are many different web browsers out there - some with multiple versions that just keep hanging on in there, some browsers handling things in their own usique ways. Building a website that works and looks the same across all browsers and operating systems can be a potential minefield. The good news is that most problems can be avoided if your site is standards compliant.
Take our own site as an example. Try viewing it in Internet Explorer (6, 7 or 8), Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome or on an iPhone. Notice anything? It looks and works the same no matter what you're using.
